A great thing is happening in Yoga, but not in London or New York or Delhi, in Nairobi a non profit called Africa Yoga Project has taken Yoga into the slums, with great success, read about it here (http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2013/mar/25/yoga-kenya-jobs-enlightenment).
This has to be the best Yoga there is, lifting people out of poverty and breaking down prejudice and social barriers, its amazing! Like Neem Karoli Baba’s famous dictum “if you want to raise your kundalini, feed someone. “, it cuts through all the self centered dogmatism about “freedom” or “enlightenment” to reveal what is actually important in the world, helping others. Of course this is not the traditional Indian view of Yoga, which has always been for elites, Traditional Yoga limits itself to not doing harm to others, but Yoga evolves. Mark Whitwell has done someting similar with The peace project (http://www.heartofyoga.org/), this is Yoga that makes a difference, out of the Yoga studio, in the street, in the war zone, Great stuff, inspiring! Thankyou Africa Yoga Project!
